“10:03 ET – Chipotle is laying the groundwork to further automate its operations after contending with high labor costs last year. In its third automation investment this year, the company is dedicating some of its $50 million Cultivate Next fund to Greenfield Robotics. This investment targets Chipotle’s supply chain, while the previous allocations focused on kitchen operations and making its famous guacamole. Greenfield makes autonomous robots that cut weeds between rows of broadacre crops, reducing dependence on herbicides while supporting regenerative farming practices. Chipotle Chief Customer and Technology Officer Curt Garner says, “We will help Greenfield Robotics scale their robotic offerings and explore how their robots can be deployed on farms within our supply chain.”
