Congratulations to Groover Labs member Steve Roseberry and his company, PowerPortalz, for winning the Best of Wichita 2022: Kansas Customer Service Award, as recognized by Wichita Eagle readers.

PowerPortalz are standalone charging stations positioned in bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and convenience stores. Users can plug in their mobile devices (phones, tablets, laptops) with a variety of connections—USB-c, 8-pin, MicroUSB—to recharge their devices in a pinch.

Steve has been a member since May, and his presence has added plenty of energy to the space and community. PowerPortalz isn’t Steve’s only venture (see: Tutor’s Pizza), which he’s provided to us at no charge during some of our member lunches.

We took a few minutes to talk with Steve about what winning the Best of 2022: Customer Service Award means to him and his PowerPortalz business.

Congratulations on winning the Best of Wichita 2022: Customer Service Award for PowerPortalz! What are PowerPortalz?

PowerPortalz are Interactive Indoor Safe Phone and Device Charging Stations.

Where can I find PowerPortalz, and why do I need one?

We place our PowerPortalz in different high-traffic bars, restaurants, pool halls, and other busy businesses throughout Wichita. We know that 97% of age-appropriate Americans own a phone or smart device and use it more than 3.5 hours per day, so charging stations are needed everywhere.

PowerPortalz are the safe way to charge your phone (device) while you’re away from home. You just plug into one of our docking stations, choose and enter a four-digit PIN, and, when you come back, you re-enter your PIN to find your phone (device) fully charged!

We offer these safe charging stations free to businesses and free to use for the community because of the advertising we show on the PowerPortal Screen.

Winning first place in the Customer Service Category is a remarkable feat. Most businesses say they have the best customer service. It seems your customers say you have the best service, so much so that they voted you the winner in this category. What do you do differently?

We offer our services completely free of charge to the community for businesses and guests. In doing this, we make sure to keep our PowerPortal Screen updated with fun content and we keep everything working well.

How did you enter the device-charging industry?

We have an Amazon store that sells charging cables and devices, including our charging stations. We use them in Wichita as an interactive advertising opportunity.

You’ve been a Groover Labs member since May. Tell us about your experience here.

I have really enjoyed the interactive coworking space. It brings a great feeling to the day, from speaking with people to the actual architecture of the building itself. Together, it’s a great environment.

What should we know that we don’t already know?

We have 20 indoor billboard locations across Wichita for businesses to “connect” with our Free Service Advertising.
